About us
We moved to this little southern Freestate town Bethulie, on the northern banks of the ¡Xhariep (Gariep) Dam, which previously used to be known as the Hendrik Verwoerd Dam, from Bellville near Cape Town in early October 2007.
In Bellville where we ran an up-market self catering guest house called 'Adel Haus'.
The Concept
We bought and renovated this four bedroom house with a very large back-yard here in Bethulie, so we decided to do something similar to what we had in Bellville, but at the same time also something completely different.
As the house was to big for the two of us, we decided to share it with other like minded people. Hence we started Bethulie BikePackers, which offers self-catering accommodation, based on the familiar and famous Backpacker principle, but ours is aimed mainly at motorcyclists as we were members of the Western Cape biking community for a number of years and know how bikers are not welcomed at most places they go. Therefore we would like to invite and welcome you here with us in Bethulie.
This does not mean that if you do not own a motorcycle that you are not welcome here. On the contrary, we welcome anyone to be spend some time with us.
Here is what we have to offer you:
You can rent any or all of our
3 double-bed rooms,
1 room with 2 single beds
Camping facilities for approximately 50 tents. Heck, you could even hold a Micro-rally in our back yard or hold your out-of-town club meeting here.
In so doing you can also make use of our:
Fully fitted kitchen.
Lounge where you can sit, relax or read a book.
TV Lounge with Colour Television DSTV (2nd Channel)
Bar Lounge with Colour Television DSTV (1st Channel) if you want to chill out and watch some sport over a drink or two (please supply your own drinks).
Dining Room
Outside Braai (BBQ) facilities.
Swimming Pool. Well maybe 'swimming pool' is a bit over-rated, but we do have a cement dam where you can cool off in, or even enjoy a sundowner in, during our hot summer months.
Bathroom with a shower, bath and toilet which has to be shared by all residents (for extreme emergencies there is also a spare outside toilet which is NOT a long-drop).
A double (tandem) lock-up garage that can hold at least 8 bikes (or two cars) and lots of
safe in-yard parking for bikes.
As the shops in Bethulie close at 18:00 (6pm) during weekdays and at 12 noon on Sundays we will even do your grocery and 'cold beverage' shopping for you, should you arrive after closing time. Being bikers, we know the packing limitations of a motorcycle.
We live in a farm like atmosphere 5 minute walk from the centre of Town.
If you want to do some sightseeing in and around Bethulie, we will even give you a guided tour of our 'dorpie' and also its watering holes.
What do we charge for all this ?
This is where "Accommodation with a Difference" comes into effect.
YOU decide the rates.
That's right, YOU decide what our accommodation and hospitality is worth, then pay us accordingly. You can even pay us according to what you can afford.
If you feel our accommodation is so bad that we should pay you for staying with us: “Sorry, that ain' t gonna happen ”.
We do not have 24 hour bar or kitchen services and do not offer you breakfast in bed.
Do yourself a favour, make a detour, stop over in Bethulie and spend a night or more with us. Relax in a warm, friendly, farm like atmosphere and do some sights seeing. We will even give you an accompanied tour of all the historical sites of Bethulie, dating back to the Anglo-Boer War days.
Even if you decide not to stay over in Bethulie or with us, at least give us a call when you pass through. Being Bikers ourselves we would like to meet other like minded people.
As mentioned above, you do not have to be a Biker, ride a motorcycle or even own a motorcycle to qualify for our accommodation or the un-beatable offer mentioned.
